Fly Fishing, Five-Star Meals, and First Access to What’s Next
A weekend on the McKenzie, a handful of scrappy servants, and a first look at something new.
Hey Beloved,
This past weekend, I hosted a fly fishing trip for a group of leaders up on the McKenzie River.
On the surface, it looked like any guys’ weekend—gear bags, drift boats, coffee before sunrise.
But beneath it all, there was a quiet current of intention.
Letters from their wives were waiting for them on night one.
Meals from what I believe are soon-to-be Michelin-starred chefs from SoCal—whose creativity in the kitchen was more than a meal; it was a love letter to every guest at the table.
But we didn’t set out to create the best retreat.
We set out to make these leaders feel seen and welcomed— not because of what they do, or what they have, or what others might say about them.
But simply because they’re beloved.
And behind the scenes was a group of scrappy, servant-hearted men— chefs, guides, hosts—who gave up their own weekend just to help others remember that truth.
Not to impress.
Not to fix.
Just to remind them:
You matter. You belong. You are seen.
That’s hospitality.
Not just performance—but presence.
Not just a spectacle—but care, stitched quietly into the seams of a weekend.
Apostle Paul wrote it like this:
“Care for the saints. Practice hospitality.”- (Romans 12:13)
Pretty simple really…

Hospitality as a Way of Leading
More and more, this is the work I find myself returning to.
Helping teams and leaders practice hospitality not just in what they offer their customers—but in how they build their culture, lead their people, and design their business.
I’ve coached through the Unreasonable Hospitality framework.
I’ve helped boutique brands and STR hosts turn guest journeys into something memorable.
And I’ve walked with leaders who care deeply—but don’t have a rhythm or system to make that care repeatable.
They’re tired of winging it.
And they’re ready for something that actually lasts.
